Burns Phillips, Tennessee’s Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner, announced that General Cable’s facility in Jackson, Tennessee, was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health.
“General Cable has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace," said Phillips, who presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence to Gene Ficker on behalf of the company at the closing session of the Tennessee Safety and Health Congress in Nashville on July 17, 2013. “The evaluation criteria for this award is not only challenging, but is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote safety.”
Upon accepting the award, Gene said, “General Cable is honored to receive this award and we will display it proudly in our Jackson plant. We are committed to reaching our safety goal of Zero & Beyond because nothing else is acceptable and this award is proof that we are getting closer every day.”
The Governor’s Award of Excellence honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities.
