General Cable Gets Charged Up About Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

General Cable launched its new Carol® Brand line of CarolGrene™ Ultra Flex® Electric Vehicle (EV) Cables at the Plug-in 2011 Show in Raleigh, North Carolina. CarolGrene cables supply charging power to any electric vehicle on the market today.

Brian Roddy, General Cable’s Director of OEM Sales, has indicated that high quality cord and cordsets with a proven track record of performance are a critical element to the safety of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), customer experience and the advancement of the EV market.

Tier 1 suppliers to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) require repeatable cable performance with constant attention to detail and manufacturing tolerances. Thanks to General Cable’s engineering and manufacturing teams, this newest Carol Brand addition is poised to capture 40% of the market, with six new specs written for EV projects starting production in 2012.

The CarolGrene EV Cables line provides the most comprehensive UL 62 approved product offering for any type of Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 NEC 625 charging station application. Additionally, all designs are compatible with SAE J1772 connector systems.

CarolGrene EV Cables are offered with three standard jacket types:

"The introduction of the CarolGrene UltraFlex EV Cable is a valuable addition to our Carol Brand Portable Cord line and expands our product offering for automotive tier suppliers and OEMs," said Todd Sweeney, Product Manager, Carol Brand Cord & Cordset Products. "The TPE jacket itself is the most flexible option on the market today, and this product line expansion continues the legacy of quality, innovation and superior performance Carol Brand is known for."

Congratulations to the Carol team on the successful launch of this new portable power line!
