General Cable Hosts STEM Girls’ Day Out for Local Students
General Cable was invited by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to host a hands-on, experiential learning day encouraging female students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We gladly accepted, and eleven local girls participated in the visit to our global headquarters in Highland Heights, Kentucky. Vijay Mhetar, Sr. Vice President, Global Technology, kicked off the event by encouraging the students to look to women in history, such as Marie Curie, as they foster their interests in STEM fields. As is evident in the picture, these girls were curious, enthusiastic, and excited to attend.
A team of General Cable volunteers provided an introduction to inside sales, utility engineering, finance, and accounting. The students also viewed technology exhibits and demonstrations in our on-site technology center. Special thanks to Amy Shackelford, Amy Turnbull, Maisha Cox, Jennifer Sheffel, Vera Gee, Andrea Penrod, Chelsea Livesay, Blake Boswell, Joaquin Palomeque, Tina Reiber, Howard Atkins, and Coco Taliaferro for volunteering their time and ideas.
We were proud to participate in this event alongside other local companies, including bioLOGIC/Bexion Pharmaceuticals, Duke Energy, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, and Toyota Manufacturing, N.A.
