General Cable believes people are the differentiating element in gaining a competitive advantage and continuously invests in programs to develop knowledgeable associates. We recruit and develop talented people who bring specialized knowledge in such areas as manufacturing excellence, technology, quality, safety, management, purchasing, sales and accounting. As with everything we do, we are committed to the continuous improvement of our talented workforce. Our development program primarily focuses on formal training, on-the-job experience, special assignments, mentoring and position rotations.
Think Globally, Hire Locally
Recruiting and developing a local workforce is part of our commitment to creating shared value in the communities in which we do business. We strive to hire and develop local candidates whenever possible.
Many of our locations partner with local universities, colleges and technical schools to offer internships to their students in such areas as manufacturing, technology, quality, safety, management, purchasing, sales, accounting and law. Our internship program creates shared value for the community and our Company by providing business experience and mentoring for students while gaining benefits from their contributions to our Company. Following participation in our internship program, we strive to fill open positions with former interns.
Training Future Leaders
General Cable further strengthens our investment in people by selecting and developing talented business, marketing, sales and engineering graduates who desire fulfilling careers with us. The objective of General Cable’s trainee programs is to assist successful college graduates in a seamless transition to full-time positions with the opportunity and intent to advance vertically within our Company in the future. Trainees remain in their respective programs for 18 to 24 months, depending on the program.
